Have You Heard of Early Decision II?

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic means more uncertainty for students this fall, and more uncertainty for the colleges and universities they attend.

A significant number of students are choosing gap years, deferrals, and semesters off in lieu of virtual classes and the prospect of isolation in dorms.

Admissions offices aren’t yet sure what the impact of coronavirus will be on their decisions for the class of 2021. But, it’s likely that early admissions will become even more advantageous.

You may be familiar with Early Decision, but have you heard of Early Decision II?

What is Early Decision II?

Like Early Decision I, EDII is a binding commitment to attend one specific college should they accept you. You can only submit one ED II application.

When is the Early Decision II deadline?

EDII application deadlines vary, but they generally fall in late December or early January. The deadlines are often aligned with regular admissions deadlines. Check the website for the specific school you’re interested in to confirm their deadline!

Can I apply both Early Decision and Early Decision II?

Yes, if you are not admitted ED, you can choose to submit an ED II application to a different institution.

The biggest benefit of applying ED II? Your top choice college knows you want to attend, so they may be more likely to admit you over similarly situated Regular Decision applicants. COVID may magnify this advantage.

Just like ED, though, you’ll need to be comfortable with paying full price if the institution is not need blind, as your acceptance will be binding and leave no room to negotiate a financial aid package.

Wondering if ED II should be a part of your application strategy? Schedule a call with me to discuss!
