Should I Retake the SAT?

You should absolutely retake the SAT! In fact, students that take the test a second time generally see their scores increase!

How many times can I take the SAT?

As many times as you want!

While there’s no need to take the test six or seven times, you do have that option available to you. You will not be penalized for retaking the test, and usually, it’s beneficial to do so.

Does it look bad to colleges?

Nope. Most schools only take into account the scores that you send them.

Some schools even superscore for the SAT, so they’ll take the highest score from each section to form your overall score.

However, some schools, like Georgetown University, require that you send all of your scores with your application. Make sure to research the specific requirements of the schools on your list before devising a testing plan.

What if I retake it and my score goes down?

This can happen, though it’s unlikely. Most people who retake the SAT see their score improve after taking it for the second time.

If you do see a decrease in your score total the second time around, don’t worry. Since many schools superscore, you may have improved in a certain section even with a lower composite score, and that improved section score would replace the lower one.
