Most high-school students have used a graphing calculator before, and if you're studying or planning to study for the SAT or ACT, you'll definitely be needing one. But how do you know which one to buy?

Not only can this calculator do it all, it also has a polished finish and a slim design that fits your pocket! The best part is that it has touchpad navigation and it doesn't require any batteries-- simply charge it when you need to. If you're someone who does homework in the early morning or evening, this calculator is calling your name; it has a backlit color display that adjusts to dimly-lit rooms.

And it even gets better than that. The CAS in its name refers to its Computer Algebraic System, which allows you to solve for x in some of the simplest ways possible. This includes algebraic function, solving equations, and even identifying limits. It has a 320 x 240 pixel display, a mini-USB port, and 16MB RAM.

This sleek new device costs about $170, but reviews say that it's definitely worth the purchase. Be aware that this calculator is not allowed for the ACT.

Also with a color screen, this model shows a 320 x 240 pixel display and has 100MB RAM. Like its big sister (TI-Nspire CX CAS Graphing Calculator by Texas Instruments), this calculator has a modern look, is lightweight, and features touchpad navigation.

Although it's similar to its sibling in most aspects, this model does not have the CAS function described above.

Listed at about $150, this calculator is allowed for both the SAT and ACT because it does not inlcude the CAS feature. So, if you want a modern and high functioning calculator for the ACT, be sure to go with this model!

If you're looking for something that has the CAS function, but don't want to spend too much money, this is definitely the calculator for you. Texas Instruments makes it easy to navigate and doesn't require you to memorize buttons and steps to utilize its full potential.

Although this calculator is a simple one, it's also outdated and lacks some of the more modern functions found in most calculators today. It requires AAA batteries, has a 160 x 100 pixel display, and has 188KB RAM. That being said, most people who use this model appreciate its simplicity and prefer it over more complex calculators.

The $120 is said to be worth it! The great thing about this model is that you can use it on both the SAT and the ACT.

Although this one doesn't have the CAS program, it does have all of the statistical and algebraic functions that are necessary for the standardized tests we're taking into consideration.

Generally speaking, this is a great go-to calculator because it's easy to use and has all of the functions you'll need for testing. It has a 96 x 64 pixel display, requires AAA batteries, and has 24KB RAM. With 10 different graphing functions, 14 interactive zoom features, and 14-digit accuracy, you simply can't go wrong with this calculator.
